Explosion Safety Research Group

Leader Kunihiko Wakabayashi

Our group has conducted extensive study from basic researches to applied ones on explosion safety, including clarification of a mechanism for initiation and explosion phenomenon for high-energy materials such as explosives and development of a technology to ensure the safety of such materials, a risk assessment technology, a mitigation technology of explosion effects, and novel technologies to utilize high-energy materials effectively.
We have actively implemented technical assistance in response to governmental requirements, and conducted a large-scale field explosion tests.
Such outcome has been reflected on establishment of the technical criterion for safe handling of high-energy materials not only in Japan but also abroad through such a proposal of test methods in the United Nations conferences. We have been contributing to the realization of safe and secure society.
